Underfloor heating in a large sports arena – a unique installation in Härnösand

A modern, multi-purpose sports facility is taking shape at the existing Ängevallen site near Murberget in Härnösand. Scheduled for completion after summer 2025, the new facility will be a welcome addition for local schools and community sports clubs.

The project includes two sports halls – one full-size and one smaller – as well as changing rooms, entrance areas, a café and spectator areas.

Extensive underfloor heating solution

What makes the project technically unique is the extensive installation of water-borne underfloor heating, a solution rarely used on this scale in large public buildings. Almost the entire facility, including both sports halls, has been equipped with underfloor heating.

The installation comprises approximately:

• 15,000 metres of underfloor heating pipe
• 8,000 heat distribution plates
• 12 manifolds

To provide reliable, user-friendly control, the eight underfloor heating manifold cabinets serving the sports halls are controlled cabinet by cabinet rather than circuit by circuit. This arrangement provides simple and efficient control across large floor areas.

As part of the installation, all heat distribution plates were secured using an estimated 15,000–20,000 staples.

Local expertise and extensive experience

The installation was carried out by J. Sjölunds Värme & Sanitet AB, a well-established local HVAC contractor based in Härnösand. The company has worked with LK Systems since it was founded in 1993 and currently employs 10–15 people. Its work ranges from small service assignments to major contracting projects.
