The advantages of Floor Heating

Under Floor Heating is nothing new!

Under floor heating is smart and clever, but actually not a new invention. It was not even new when it became more common in Europe some 35 years ago. Far from it, the first comparable systems were installed in 80BC by the Romans. They called it the Hypocaust, a system of clay pipes and channels under the floor that conducted hot smoke from a fire before escaping through a chimney.

In 16th Century Renaissance Florence an apartment in the Medici family palace was equipped with pipes under the floor, through which hot water was passed. Essentially, this is the same technique LK Systems employ today.

Suits all buildings...

Warm-water floor heating works efficiently in every kind of building, from conservatory and extensions to snug cottage, in homes and care centres, churches and mosques, industrial buildings and warehouses and on up to modern schools and hospitals. LK Floor Heating is even installed in Arlanda Airport, Stockholm. Size has no limitations for LK Floor Heating. Nor does floor structure, our under floor heating can be installed in any floor structure; solid concrete, screeded floors, suspended (joisted) floors, floating floors and battened floors. What ever construction you have, we can find a solution.

LK PE-Xa (cross linked polyethylene by the unique Ågren process) pipe is so advanced and resilient, it will last the lifetime of the building.

One of the great strengths and advantages of warm-water floor heating is that it can be connected to any heat source. What ever the future brings with fuel costs or new technology, LK Floor Heating will work with any new heat source in exactly the same way as before.

Under floor heating systems are “low temperature”, they work very efficiently with Heat-Pumps (Ground Source or “Air to Water”), Solar Panels, waste heat or any other low energy heat-source. So, you can regard investment in an LK Floor Heating as an investment in both the future and the environment.

A clever heat solution...

Under floor heating provides a different and pleasing sensation of warmth and comfort to radiators. Instead of the heat being localised to one or two places in a room, the entire floor surface works as gentle radiator; further, the heat comes from the right place – from below. There is less convection, which in turn reduces dust circulation; a relief for allergy sufferers.

Under floor heating spares you the inconveniences of radiators and pipes along the walls; no more decorating behind radiators and no more furniture blocking you from the heat. You now have total freedom to decorate and furnish your as you wish.

Good heat economy...

More even heat and comfort means you can reduce the indoor temperature by a couple of degrees, without feeling colder or less comfort.

A well insulated building and under floor heating, combined with modern heat source technology, for instance a heat pump, can save a small fortune in running costs – money you can spend on other luxuries. Further, UFH installed in screed can be both cheaper to purchase and install than radiator systems.
